Energy Storage Integration, Digital Tools and Software | Utility-Scale Solar Engineering

Energy Storage Integration and Software-Driven Workflows for Utility-Scale PV | Eric Loos, PE, Director of Utility-Scale Engineering at Pure Power, shares how we integrate BESS into large-scale PV systems—tied to the same substation, often co-located behind a shared fence line for efficiency and streamlined operations. At this scale, automation and digital tools are essential. They enable us to manage complexity, reduce risk, and deliver projects on time and on budget—from early development through final design. 🎥 Hear how Pure Power engineers smarter from the start. #UtilityScaleSolar #EnergyStorage #BESS #SubstationDesign #SolarEngineering #DigitalTools #OnTimeOnBudget #CleanEnergy #SolarDesign #EPCPartner #GridIntegration

It is very commonplace these days to incorporate a battery energy storage system into our PV arrays. Just because of how large the systems are and how reliable they are needing to become. So we incorporate them typically by putting them on the AC sides. What that means is we connect the battery system to the same substation that the PV system is connected to as well. More often than not those battery storage systems are right adjacent to the utility substation that exists on a site. And they would typically share a fence so they're right next door  to each other. Given the scale of these projects automation is critical. Without automation you're not going to be able to deliver the products on time and on budget. So we utilize software packages to help us on the development side of the world and also during the design.
